The following is from the speech Dr Claire Thurlow gave at the opening ceremony today. Thank you to Kaumatua Harvey Ruru for the blessing and opening ceremony. Kiaora

We chose Toi Toi Medical to show our support for this local community.
Looking back in time, you could image standing here many years ago next to toi toi plants growing here in Whakatu. Toi Toi plants were traditionally used in to line inner walls of buildings as well as in weaving panels and traditional medicinal uses.
We would like to weave strong links with community.
Toi toi also means to encourage, motivate and inspire which is our vision for Toi Toi Medical as we walk alongside our patients in their life journey.
I would like to thank and acknowledge Luke Katu. Today would not have possible without the support from Luke from Nelson Bays Primary health Kaiatawhai Service.
I would like to welcome and acknowledge all our colleagues from the primary health organisation, Victory community Centre, Nelson City Council, SASH and INP Medical as well as our local pharmacists and fellow GPs. Thank you for showing your support and we look forward to working together.
Finally I would like to acknowledge Dr Debbie Harrison and the team of Harrison Moore Medical. Over the last 7 years Debbie and her team have delivered high quality medical care. Debbie thank you for your dedication and hard work, you are amazing.
Dr Ngaire Warner, Dr Rebecca Velluppillai and myself are privileged to join you and build on your work. Now as Toi Toi Medical we will expand and work toward our vision in partnership with our patients, whanau and the community.
Thank you to everyone who joined us here today.
This is a special day to remember the past but to move forward with excitement as Toi Toi Medical.
Again my thanks to Harvey Ruru for leading the blessing today.
